Dynamic pooled capacity deployment for urban parcel logistics

Last-mile logistics is regarded as an essential yet highly expensive component of parcel logistics. In dense urban environments, this partially caused by inherent inefficiencies due to traffic congestion and the disparity accessibility customer locations. logistics, access hubs are facilities supporting relay-based last-mile activities offering temporary storage locations enabling decoupling from rest distribution chain. This paper focuses on a novel tactical problem: dynamic deployment pooled capacity modules in network. It formulates problem two-stage stochastic optimization model with recourse, incorporates synchronization underlying operations through continuum approximation-based travel time estimations. also develops solution approach based rolling horizon algorithm lookahead, sample average approximation Benders decomposition enhanced acceleration methods, able solve large scale instances real-sized megacity. Numerical results, inspired case express carrier, provided evaluate computational performance proposed suggest up 28% cost savings 26% compared static strategy.
